Girls Spring Basketball Overview

The Blaine Girls High School Boosters program is excited to expand our Girls Spring Basketball program for the 2020 season.  We started small last year with 2 teams (7th & 8th grade) and are intending to offer teams across 5th – 12th grade for the 2020 season. The Booster program will continue to provide support and coordination for all teams.  All coaching will be provided by the Girls High School Coaches, with assistance from current and former players as needed.

We are preparing for up to 5 teams in 2020, across grades 5-12.  We will target youth teams (grades 5-8) to practice together, and for high school teams to practice together.  Practicing together encourages competition and allows players to play with and learn from others.

Our goal with Blaine Girls Spring Basketball is to offer an affordable and competitive opportunity to expand the winter traveling season for those players interested.  We are running this program to be financially neutral every year.

For 2020, pricing is $500 per player and is inclusive of coaching, practice time, and tournaments.  We expect the season to be 6-8 weeks in length depending on tournament schedules.  We currently plan for teams to play in 3-4 tournaments.  Teams will start in late March/early-April and end in early/mid-June.  Youth teams will wear their traveling uniforms, and HS teams will wear HS uniforms. Every player will need to sign up for an AAU membership (~ $20).

After teams are formed, if there is interest from the full team to extend the Spring season into July, we will work out a plan to do so with coaches, and additional practices and tournaments.  This will come at an additional cost to cover program expenses. This will be handled team by team as an option.

What’s Next?

Information Night:
A Girls High School Booster representative will be available from 6:15 pm - 8:15 pm on Wednesday, January 29th.  Please stop by to learn more and ask any questions you may have.

Note: This is the same night as our Skills & Assessment Night (see below) where players will go through drills and assessment with our high school coaches.

Skills & Assessment Night:
We will hold a skills & assessment night on Wednesday, January 29th from 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm at Blaine High School for youth players in grades 5-8.

  • There is no cost to attend but players wanting to play Spring Basketball are required to attend.
  • Players should arrive no later than 6:30 pm to check in and get ready.
  • Players should bring a water bottle and wear their reversible traveling PRACTICE jerseys so coaches can divide the girls into groups for skills and games.
  • Skill & Assessment night is closed to parents to ensure our coaches and players can be focused on skills.  Parents are welcome to wait in the lobby and a Booster representative will be available to answer any questions.

Our goal is to maximize the number of Blaine girls playing Spring Basketball, however, not all that attend/register will be offered a spot.  Roster spots will be based on skill & readiness.

We are asking interested players to RSVP for the Skills & Assessment night so our coaching staff has an idea of how many players to expect so they can plan accordingly.
